Rowling's best-selling books about the boy wizard, the newspaper said.

"The book's wizards and magic all falls in the line of witchcraft," Toyne said at the time. "In our district we are trying to promote character with programs like Character Counts, and I don't see how the book promotes that. I think (the books) could arouse a child's imagination and curiosity of the unknown, of the dark side."

The Harry Potter series made the Top 10 on the American Library Association's "100 Most Challenged Books of 1990-2000," along with "Daddy's Roommate" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has paid £30,000 at a charity auction for a family tree drawn by author JK Rowling

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has paid £30,000 at a charity auction for a family tree drawn by author JK Rowling.

Radcliffe, 16, who plays the schoolboy wizard on screen, bought a handwritten history of the family of Sirius Black, his character's godfather.

Rowling donated the document to the sale by Book Aid International, which provides books for schools in Africa.

The actor also successfully bid for handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard, totalling £4,680.
Radcliffe's mother Marcia Gresham bid on his behalf at the central London auction.

She said: "This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading.

"Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard."

Will Harry Potter Die in Final Book?

He could or could not. The answer to the question now lies in the hands of JK Rowling who is currently working on the final book of the Harry Potter series.

Will Malfoy succeed in killing Harry with a powerful wand he received from Professor Snape? Will Professor Dumbledore rise from his grave to protect Harry? It's been a while since I updated this blog. It was a frustrating period for me because very few visitors come to my blog since I created this. But I realized that making this blog was, first and foremost, for my personal satisfaction and not for other people. That's the reason why I'm back. I'm going to updated this blog everyday and I hope too that more and more people will come by and read my posts. :)

Harrypotterpodcast learned that the filming of the next Harry Potter movie "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will start today, Monday, in London.

A veteran Academy Award nominee and a 14-year-old unknown will join the cast as filming begins in southern England on "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Director David Yates will be at the helm of the movie version of J.K. Rowling's fifth book, due in theaters next year.

The plot centers on the arrival of Dolores Umbridge, an unpopular new professor at wizard academy Hogwarts. She will be played by actress Imelda Staunton, nominated for a 2005 Oscar for her performance in the bleak period drama "Vera Drake."

An Irish Harry Potter fan, Evanna Lynch, will play his love interest in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after she beat out around 1,50,000 hopefuls.

According to contactmusic.com, Lynch will play Luna Lovegood. Lynch is such a big fan of the Potter series that she named her two cats Luna and Crookshanks. She was even sent a signed copy of the book when she was too sick to attend a book signing.

Her father says, "Words cannot describe how happy she is."

Harry Potter and the Final Chapter

J.K. Rowling is officially back at work, writing the seventh (and final) Harry Potter book. That's the good news. The bad news is that it will be at least 2007 (eek!) before "Harry Potter and the Whatever, Whatever, Whatever" is published.

In the meantime, are you re-reading the first six books, notebook at the ready, searching for clues about what might happen in Book 7? Have you figured out who RAB is? Does your family get into shouting matches over whether Snape (Professor Snape, please) is good or evil?

You're not alone. At any given time, thousands of Muggles are scouring mugglenet.com for clues, joining message boards at the-leaky-cauldron.com or finding hope amid their grief at dumbledoreisnotdead.com. (Don't say we didn't warn you!)

Part of what made "Half-Blood Prince" so riveting is that it answered so many questions and raised so many others. KidsPost looks at some of the most interesting issues left for Book 7.

Is Snape an agent for Voldemort or Dumbledore?

It comes down to whether you believe Dumbledore was begging for his life when he said, "Severus ... please" or whether he was urging Snape to go ahead with an agreed-upon plan.

Rowling says those who think Dumbledore and Snape had a pact "cling to some desperate hope." Still, in "Sorcerer's Stone," Dumbledore tells Harry that "to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." Would a man who thinks that really beg for his life?

Who is RAB?

Could it be Sirius Black's dead brother, Regulus? Rowling has called that "a fine guess."

There are other hints pointing to a Black family member having gotten the locket/horcrux from the cave. During the frantic cleaning of 12 Grimmauld Place in "Order of the Phoenix," members of the order come across "a heavy locket that none of them could open."

Will the secret of Harry's scar be revealed?

Some speculate that Harry's scar is actually a horcrux, created when Lord Voldemort killed James and Lily Potter, although there is much dispute about this on the Internet.

There can be little doubt, however, that the scar that started it all will play a key role as Harry's story wraps up. After all, it's in the first chapter of "Sorcerer's Stone" that Professor Dumbledore says "scars can come in useful." And Rowling has said that the last word of the last book will be "scar."

Is this the end of Hogwarts?

Well, Harry's not returning for his seventh year, and Ron and Hermione are going with him. Also, Rowling described the Luna-commentated match as "the last Quidditch match."

Still, it's hard to believe, as Harry and Voldemort prepare for their final battle, that these two magical, handsome, cursed orphans won't return to the place where each first felt truly at home.

Does Harry die?

That's the only question that really matters, isn't it? Remember in "Goblet of Fire" that Dumbledore gets a "gleam of something like triumph" in his eyes when Harry tells him that Voldemort used a drop of Harry's blood to revive himself. Rowling calls the gleam "extremely significant." Perhaps, like his scar, giving blood to Voldemort somehow protects Harry. Who knows?

Well, J.K. Rowling does. The rest of us will just have to wait and wonder.

By TRACY GRANT
The Washington Post

Chronicles of Narnia's Impressive Theatrical Box Office Run Outperforming Harry Potter

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe continues to perform better than anyone expected. I check the Harry Potter Web site every day and saw the auditions advertised on there.''

Annie Beatson, 15, said: "As far as we know, they are just going to be looking at us and seeing if any of us has got the weird characteristics they want. We were told we couldn't wear makeup, which is a nightmare.''

Only British and Irish citizens were being auditioned, and each hopeful had to identify herself with a passport or birth certificate, and a proof of address. -

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix Casting

Warner Bros. has started casting on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and they're looking for their Luna Lovegood. Guess what? They want to cast one of you.

At the least this gives us an idea of what direction their going for with the character. According to their press release, they’re looking for girls between the ages of thirteen and sixteen years old, who are residents of the UK or Ireland (sorry Americans!). Even more importantly… no experience necessary. They’ll consider just about anyone.

Now hold on, don’t get excited and think you can show up and take over for Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. Nor are they casting dragons or background scenery. They've made it clear to us here at CB Central that Luna Lovegood is the only role they're casting right now, so if you’ve ever thought of yourself as a Luna Lovegood type and you’re a good CB Reader from across the pond then give it a shot by showing up at: the Central Hall Westminster Storey’s Gate, Westminster, London SW 1 on Saturday January 14th. As an American, that address I just gave you makes absolutely no sense to me.

And please, nerds, don’t show up in costumes. That’s not cool, even the people at Warner Brothers think it’s kind of dorky. Leave your makeup off (What are you doing wearing makeup at that age?), forget your high heels (Seriously, you’re a kid! Cut it out!), put on some nice flannel and see if you can get a part in Harry Potter 5. If you do, you can thank us with an exclusive podcast interview.

Top Ten Leaky/Harry Potter Moments of 2005

Top Ten Leaky/Harry Potter Moments of 2005

10. First Goblet "shot by shot"; Kind of reminded me of the last time we stayed up until 7 a.m. working on the POA shot by shot... Of course this was in the days before the PotterCast all-nighters.

9. "Where's John?" Oh, the fun you all had the day I went 'missing'. The funniest part about that to me was how I was at work all day and wasn't even able to sign on until that night, when I was able to read about the fun all the "John" impersonators/mods were having hiding me places. (Thanks again Kimmy for coming to my rescue!)

8. The date/title of HBP. That was a way exciting day. I remember how it lit a fire under us as we knew then how much time we'd have to finish PotterParties. We still scrambled to get it finished in the last few weeks, but thats neither here nor there..

7. Debuting PotterParties. That was fun on many levels; being able to bring the world the cool new tool that is "PotterParties," and also all the 'fun' we had trying to get it to work. That will probably be the last time I get to play with the random question marks though...

6. Leaky Lounge opens for business! That was back in January; it's been a lot of fun interacting with all the readers and sharing theories and stories and meeting new people.

5. Reading the Leaky/MN Jo Interview, and all the excitement surrounding it. Chatting with Melis during those days up to and following the experience, it felt as if I was there myself - couldn't have been any more excited or proud for her.

4. Midnight release of HBP. Went to a low-key Potter Party at a Borders Books, let some girl paint a 'scar' on my forhead, and managed to have my book home with me and my siblings by 12:30 to begin the all night read-a-thon... tired out at Very Frosty Christmas, but finished after a four-hour nap.

3. PotterCast! At first, I honestly didn't have much interest. However, after sitting up with Melis helping her record the first episode (one of the funniest private Leaky moments of the year) I caught the podcast bug. I'd be amiss not to mention how great it's been to go from thinking of those guys at MuggleNet as MuggleNerds, to good friends - all thanks to the podcasting. It has been a blast bring the show to you all every week since then, and I hope each new show can be as good if not better then the last! [Thats your cue for all the non-listeners to make one of your new year's resolutions to check it out!]

2. Winning Jo's Fan Site Award was really a defining moment for Leaky this year. Up until then, I admit wondering when or if that day would ever come, but I've realized since how special winning when we did really is. It was the year anniversary of Jo's new website. It was right around the time of all the big HBP annoucements, and as of today we are the only site to be awarded this honor in all of 2005. I'll be forever flattered for the honor: the honor of Jo's recognition, and the honor of working with such a fantastic group of people who I all concider to be great friends.

1. And finally, though many of you purists will huff at my for saying so, my top moment (moments really) was the whole New York Premiere exerience. I really could write a whole other top 10 just for that weekend (but I don't want to take advantage of the rare occasion I get to add things into a post rather than around it). From getting there and meeting so many of the people I talk to so often for the first time face to face (yes, including the MuggleNerds), going out with everybody and exploring the city, being on the red carpet - inches away from so many of the people whose likenesses have spent the past couple years up on my Photoshop at one point or another, SEEING THE MOVIE with all of them at the premiere (and daydreaming of maybe one day being invited to a future Potter premiere, as a crew member), of COURSE the Live Leaky Mug podcast, and the bizarre/lucky experience of going to the Cast/Crew after party: getting a picture and a autograph with Radcliffe, and BRIEFLY sitting on a lounge next to Emma as she signed for me as well. I really can't remember ever having as much fun in recent years then I did that weekend - some times it seems more like a dream then something that really happened. If we can recreate at least half of the fun in the upcoming Vegas podcast it will easily be a highlight of 2006.

Deleted scenes from Harry Potter 'Goblet of Fire'

The following deleted scenes are to be featured on the movie's DVD:

SCENE 1: Dumbledore asks his pupils to welcome Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students. All the Hogwarts students then start to sing the school song.

SCENE 2: A Durmstrang student asks a girl to go with him to the Yule Ball. She says yes, and two of their friends make gestures in the background.

SCENE 3: Harry tries to speak with Cho Chang, but as she is constantly surrounded by friends, he doesn't get the opportunity.

SCENE 4: Flitwick introduces the Weird Sisters at the Yule Ball. The lead singer speaks with the audience and then starts the first song.

SCENE 5: Karkaroff tells Snape about the mark of his arm. Snape ignores him and removes house points from Fawcet and Stebbins, who briefly appear in the scene. Snape doesn't care about what Karkaroff has to say.

SCENE 6: Mr. Crouch and Harry are speaking. Mad-Eye appears and Barty quickly leaves.

SCENE 7: The trio speak about the death of Mr. Crouch. Ron thinks that Fudge will prevent the story from leaking out to the public. Hermione believes his death, Harry's scar burning, and the Dark Mark at the Quidditch World Cup are related. She recommends Harry goes to visit Dumbledore.

SCENE 8: The trio speak about what Karkaroff was showing Snape on his arm. Hermione asks Harry which potion ingredients Snape accused him of stealing and realizes they are the ingredients needed for the Polyjuice Potion.
Although all of the following sources had previously reported different release dates, they now all agree that the GOF DVD will be released on March 7th - DVD Town, The Movie Insider, VideoETA and GameShout. Mugglenet.com selected Limelight especially for the proven scalability of its high-bandwidth media delivery network which enables fast downloads of the extremely popular "MuggleCast," a weekly talk show dedicated to everything Harry Potter. The MuggleCast has previously reached #1 in the iTunes podcast rankings.

"After evaluating the available CDN platforms, we selected Limelight based on its solid reputation for cost-competitiveness, ease of implementation and reliability, as well as its scalability," said Damon Brangers, Senior Systems Manager of Mugglenet.com. "Our decision has been vindicated by Limelight's ability to unfailingly meet the strong demand for our MuggleCasts, which have polled among the top 50 iTunes podcasts since they began September, as well as for content directly accessible from Mugglenet.com, whose traffic exceeds that of any other Harry Potter web site."

Said Lou Greco, Vice President of Sales at Limelight, "The Limelight CDN is designed for large audience delivery of media & entertainment to a complete range of devices, including PCs, portable media players and mobile phones -- virtually any IP-connected device.
